Lachlan got his Honours degree in Aerospace Engineering from UNSW and landed his first job as a wind engineer, studying dynamic wind effects on tall structures using wind tunnel testing. He has always had a passion for aviation and had a big interest in UAVs as an emerging new industry. He found that his passion and experience with practical testing were a great fit for Carbonix as a flight test engineer.
The role involves creating test plans and strategies to validate the performance of the UAV and analysing flight logs to give feedback to the engineering team in the office. A lot of satisfaction from the job comes from developing new aircraft and tuning the autopilot control systems to get a stable and reliable aircraft.
Outside of work, he enjoys live music, bouldering and playing video games when he can. His time at Carbonix has inspired a new hobby of attempting to build his own DIY drone himself.
